When I was a kid, reality TV wasn't really big yet. The most we had was game shows, Road Rules, and Real World! The Bachelor hadn't even started yet! So, anyway, you may be wondering, "What does this have to do with LuLaRoe and fashion?
Well, soon after the reality TV movement got started, Fashion Reality TV became part of the movement. My mom and I immediately got hooked on the show What Not to Wear with Stacy London and Clinton Kelly. They helped unsuspecting fashion violators to become knowledgeable and confident fashionistas! One of the most popular sayings from Stacy and Clinton was the following...
"It doesn't have to match! It just has to go!"
Little did I know that my mother and I would be saying this statement to each other and future customers for years to come!
What we have learned about our fellow LuLaLovers is that there are three types of shoppers....
1. I will only wear colors that match exactly.
2. I will wear colors that look similar but I still am still not sure about mixing crazy color together.
3. I will wear anything together as long as it looks good and doesn't hurt my eyes!
The most important thing about shopping for clothing is to find pieces that you love, look great on you, and builds confidence in yourself. In this blog, you will find some helpful hints to help you to do that:)
Let's start by talking about color first! In another post we will talk about patterns!
All fashion designers use the color wheel to help them put colors together to make beautiful, eye-catching styles. The quick and easy way to find the complementary color which is the color directly across the wheel. Therefore, you would match green with pink or yellow with purple. Most school colors are complementary colors.
Complementary colors aren't the only way to use the color wheel. You can also use the following images to combine more than just two shades to build a beautiful outfit:
Check out some of these pairings for all types of folks from Kinner's Closet:
#1- The outfit above would work for someone who fits the person #1 listed above. The Nicole dress has several colors of tan; one of which is the exact same color as the tans in the joy. This is a great outfit for someone who prefers to have their colors match exactly.
#2- The outfit above features a Sarah Cardigan with a Julia Dress. This outfit utilizes the color wheel in the Split Complementary way (see graphic above) in that the dress is full of oranges and yellows with a navy background. This is complemented with a light blue which is found across from the oranges and yellows on the color wheel. This outfit would be perfect for personality type #2 in that it still matches, there are similar colors, and it's not TOO MUCH of a stretch!
#3- This outfit features a Sarah Cardigan with a solid gold Carly Swing Dress. This outfit is perfect for personality type #3 from above. The Sarah doesn't have ANY yellow in it but yet the yellow helps to bring out the colors in the Sarah! This outfit doesn't have any colors that match perfectly but yet it doesn't hurt the eyes one bit! It's simply beautiful in real life!
